Rapid development creates an increasingly attractive living and business environment in Harku municipality

Harku parish, close to the capital, charms the residents with its long coastline and large natural green areas where one can enjoy an active holiday. The development of residential and commercial properties along Kloogaranna Road is on the rise due to the superb connection with Tallinn, and the growing interest of home seekers in the area.

“Nothing signals a concentration of people better than extension of large grocery store chains,” said Tarmo Rammo, Sales Manager of Favorte, a real estate developer. “Two new grocery stores will be built to the western direction leaving Tallinn – Prisma in Tiskre residential area, and Selver in the new Tabasalu Keskus. Tabasalu Rimi may also expand,” he added.

Among smaller settlements in Harku municipality, Muraste is also noticeable due to its swift development. The village is growing year by year, and it’s becoming an increasingly rich living environment thanks to the active community. Recently, a number of plots have become available for purchase, and the development of semi-detached houses has started as well.

“It seems people are interested in both large apartment blocks and homes in more private and peaceful places. For example, in Loovälja residential area (loovaljakodud.favorte.ee/en), during a short 1.5-month sales period, half of the plots were sold,“ said Rammo.
Below there is an interview with Erik Sandla, the Mayor of Harku municipality, who clarifies what will be implemented in the near future to improve the living environment, and where are the areas with the greatest development potential located.

What infrastructure projects are planned to be implemented in the coming years?

There’re several projects to meet the needs of an ever-growing population, especially in the educational landscape. In 2023, new buildings for Tiskre basic school and kindergarten will be erected. This autumn, Tabasalu educational complex will be completed, which will include Tabasalu Basic School and a sports hall, as well as Tabasalu Gymnasium.

To make traffic smoother, we’ll build Apametsa Road in Tiskre, which will connect Künka Road with Toome Road. Besides, the third stage of the reconstruction of Ranna Road will be completed in the nearest future, during which we will replace the depreciated road surface, supply the road with storm drains, and renew the street lights. There’ll be more sidewalks, and the landscape near Ranna Road will be tidied up.

Where do you expect new companies and jobs?

For larger employers, according to the general plan of Harku municipality, the commercial and production land zones are planned on the south side of Tabasalu by Harku Road, and in the villages of Kumna and Tutermaa, in the areas bordering Tallinn-Paldiski Highway.

This summer, under the leadership of Reterra Estate OÜ, the construction of the Tabasalu Keskus was started, which has spaces for offices, traders, as well as a food street, a sports club and an outdoor market. The three-storey centre has a total area of 13,000 square meters.

Which areas will see the growth of population in the near future?

In the coming years, the population will grow mainly in Tiskre and Harkujärve, also in Harku and Tabasalu.
